The head was the light bulb and the cords were used to make the tentacles. I used the bottle rack as some sort of coral look to it.

When I had finished the outline of the picture decided I wanted to also use a neon pink within the blue because I thought that these two colors would look good together. I started to fill in the blue lines with a neon pink with a tint of yellow planning to fully fill in the lines. As I was painting it pink I really like the swift look brush strokes. Instead of filling in the picture completely I left the scratchy- looking rush strokes as they were.

Next I had the problem with the fact that I didn’t want to use the text piece on my art because I didn’t feel like it would look good with the rest of my painting. So for the text I incorporated it by painting over the black canvas in black. I took various words I saw in the original art piece that said “your turn” though the words weren’t originally put in that order.

Community Connection 4

Artist: Xavier.

Uses very simple things.

Light soft colors.

Some pieces are very bold, yet very simple.

Lifelike landscapes.

Mostly nature.

Paints it on borders as a frame.

This artist has a way of making everyday very simplistic things beautiful and stand out. Possibly the way the pictures are set up makes it stand out. The artist uses geometric shapes to either make a framing around the picture with flowers within it, or to break up the picture in different segments.

Many of the pictures the artist uses parts of nature, for example trees, flowers, and so on. Many of these art pieces are in such detail you can even see the reflection of a tree in the water. The details show the real shadings on a flower as well.

When the artist isn’t uses parts of nature he is painting simple things that can be in a house that if considered, could be art within themselves. Using such things aas a vase, or food. Though it is a still-life it does not have the same qualities as a generic still-life. The lines are bold and thick and do not look real. It looks almost as if it came out of a page in a children’s picture book

community connection 3

Artist: Jennifer Goldberger.

Cubism style.

Thin brush strokes.

All blended together for the most part.

Parts that are meant to stand out are in white or black.

Uses lines a lot through out it for nature pieces.

The backgrounds of an object are in a way collaged.

This artist obviously has for the most part a style of cubism. She tends to use bright cool colors over dull warm colors in her cubism pieces. In the cubism the lines aren’t exactly straight and are broken up by curved lines. The lines for this are very bold over an almost watercolor look for the picture. There is no direct picture that can be even close to making out. Some of the cubism pieces remind me of a graph you would see in a math class.

In other pieces of art she uses paisley-like designs painted over the picture. This gives it a bit of a collage look. In some pieces she uses bold surreal looking insects and flowers. When she does these objects she either makes them white or black to make them stand out. Behind these pictures it has a dull color behind it in a dripped pain look.

Many of the pictures of flowers she makes have just a plain white canvas and all the flowers consist usually of only white black and yellow in the whole picture. This makes them all kind of look like duplicates each other but a slight uniqueness to each.

Dream two you couldn’t see her face,

Today Hairspray is known as a hair product distributed with aerosol spray. This technology of using aerosol began after world World War II because they learned how to distribute insecticides over large areas. Hairspray is used almost as a “glue” to keep hair in place. Over years women have used a lot of products like hairspray such as gums and clay.

Reflection: After priming I had to figure out a way to symbolize hairspray over the times. My first thought was to paint images of hairstyles over the decades. I did end up doing that, I made one hairstyle from the sixties, because hairspray was used a lot. I also tried to paint another woman with a beehive hairdo.

Once I was finished with this I felt like there should be more to it. While thinking of ways to portray hairspray in another way I came to the thought of using old dolls from my childhood. I always enjoyed doing their hair, and just as hairspray is almost a beauty icon in the way that it is used for looks, dolls are also very much so beauty icons. So I took the dolls and cut and styled their hair in interesting ways. My first automatic though was to paint over them white to blend in with the knitting so it focused on the hair. In the end I was given the idea to paint them green.

the third version

the third version

second edit

second edit

first Ben Volta picture

first Ben Volta picture

Photo

Photo

Photo

Photo

the theme of this part of the sketchbook is...

the theme of this part of the sketchbook is obsessions
